Dr. Melissa Christino is an Orthopedic Surgeon at Boston Children’s Hospital and is an Assistant Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at Harvard Medical School. She specializes in pediatric and young adult sports medicine, and is the Director for Sports and Mental Skills Research for the Division of Sports Medicine at Boston Children’s.

Dr. Christino has a long history of involvement with athletics, and was a Division 1 athlete and assistant coach for the Harvard University Women’s Lacrosse team. She completed medical school at New York Medical College, Orthopedic Surgery Residency and an Orthopedic Trauma Fellowship at Brown University, and her specialty training in Orthopedic Sports Medicine & Arthroscopy at Boston Children’s Hospital.

Dr. Christino is passionate about providing medical care to athletes from the youth to professional levels, and is active with clinical research and involvement with national organizations and multi-center research study groups. She has particular research interests in ACL reconstruction and ACL revision surgery in young patients, as well as the psychological aspects of injury, recovery, and returning to sports after surgery.

Nev is a consultant trauma and orthopaedic surgeon with a subspecialty specialist interest in children‘s orthopaedics and sports knee surgery. He qualified for St Marys Hospital in London in 2000. He spent 6 years on the Oxford Specialist Registrar Rotation incorporating a children’s fellowship at Westmead Kids in Sydney, Australia. Since becoming a consultant in 2010 at The Royal Berkshire Hospital, he has developed an expertise Children’s and Adolescent knee conditions and injuries, and has particular interest in ACL repair and prevention of children’s sports injuries. He also is passionate about  education and has been the orthopaedic tutor in the department for the last 3 years. He has written a successful FRCS (Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons) exam viva book on trauma and orthopaedics.

Out of work, Nev’s life revolves around his sporty family. He enjoys playing competitive scratch golf and also supporting the Welsh rugby team in Cardiff. A decent rugby player in his day, Nev also has a personal experience of knee injury, rupturing his ACL playing for St.Mary’s Hospital and ending a promising rugby career. He played youth rugby for Stourbridge & later Plymouth Albion , Academy Rugby for London Welsh and Harlequins, as well as a stint with Worcester 1st team squad in the late 1990s. Nev has a busy family life with 3 young boys under 7 and a very sporty wife who is a GB triathlete and also a consultant at the Royal Berkshire Hospital.

As the Sports Medicine Director at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, the focus of Dr. Ganley's clinical practice and research on pediatric sports injuries. With a specialized skillset and experience, he has driven the creation of CHOP’s Sports Medicine and Performance Center, uniting a multidisciplinary team of orthopedic surgeons, sports medicine physicians, physical therapists, athletic trainers and nutritionists to provide comprehensive care to young athletes. He has continued to develop expertise in the arthroscopic treatment of knee, shoulder and elbow injuries, pioneering physeal-sparing ACL reconstruction surgery for skeletally immature patients.

 
Beyond his clinical experience, he plays a key role in several international, multicenter research groups dedicated to advancing management of sports injuries. As a member of the MARS study group, he collaborated with other experts in the field to review outcomes after ACL reconstruction and revision surgeries to identify risk factors and predictors of poor prognoses. More recently, he served as co-founder of a research group focused on osteochondritis dissecans of the knee (ROCK)  a society dedicated to interdisciplinary pediatric sports medicine research (PRISM) and the tibial spine study group within PRISM. His clinical work has enhanced his contributions to these groups, and has also allowed him to pursue independent research inclusive of algorithms for clinical scenarios ACL reconstruction and OCD in children with open growth plates, fixation of juvenile osteochondritis dissecans lesions of the knee, and stabilization of patellofemoral instability in children with open growth plates.

Dr. Ganley has sought to support and serve others through the establishment of PRISM study groups for most pediatric sports conditions, supporting the Pediatric Orthopedic Society of North America, International Pediatric Orthopedic Symposium and the American Academy of Pediatrics with Executive Committee work and Chair work respectively. The past two year he has served as President of ROCK. He also looks to support the sport medicine community and those involved in pediatric sports medicine by serving as a Section Editor for Pediatric Sports Medicine for the American Journal of Sports Medicine.

Guri Ekås is an orthopedic surgeon and sports physician specializing in knee injuries. She combines clinical and academic work, with a focus on ACL injuries, particularly in the pediatric population.

Guri has finalized her PhD "Pediatric ACL injuries – Management, treatment rational and long-term outcome". As part of this project, she has conducted clinical, functional and radiological follow-up of 50 young adults who have sustained an ACL injury during childhood.

She participated in the the recent 2018 IOC Consensus meeting on the management of pediatric ACL injuries and contributed to the IOC consensus statement following this meeting. Guri has also been working on a systematic review on new meniscal injuries after ACL injury.

Furthermore, Guri has been involved in sports medicine since 2010, working as a team physician for soccer, cycling and skiing. Since 2015 she has been team physician for the national ski jumping teams in Norway. During her PhD period, her affiliations were University of Oslo, Oslo University Hospital (Ullevål) and Oslo Sports Trauma Research Centre (OSTRC). She currently holds positions as university lecturer at Oslo University and consultant at Akershus University Hospital.

Mr Geutjens has been a consultant knee surgeon for 20 years, working both privately and in the National Health Service at Derby Hospitals.

His practice consists is 70% non-arthroplasty  and 30% arthroplasty work.

He runs a busy soft tissue knee surgery practice, which includes a large number of tertiary referrals for complex knee ligament problems as well as complex patello-femoral work, such as trochleaplasty.

He carries out approximately 180 ACL reconstructions per year as well as a 20 PCL reconstructions. In addition, he carries out a number of multiligament reconstructions.

Mr Geutjens is a reviewer for “the Knee” and the Bone and JointJournal

He is consultant surgeon to a number of professional sports clubs, including Derby County FC, Derby Rugby Club, Burton Albion FC, Port Vale FC, Mansfield Town FC and Derby Trailblazers Basketball Club. In addition, he has experience in treating several top level athletes, including some Olympic and Commonwealth medal winners.

In his spare time, he enjoys training for the occasional triathlon and is an ironman finisher.

Dr. Daniel Green is a pediatric orthopedic surgeon at HSS and a Professor of Clinical Orthopedic Surgery at Weill Cornell Medical College. He has established himself in pediatric sports medicine, specifically knee injuries and pediatric knee surgery, with over 80% of his surgical practice focused on knee surgery in the child and adolescent. He is currently the Fellowship Director of the Division of Pediatric Orthopedic Surgery, and the Associate Director of the Orthopedic Surgery Residency Training Program at HSS. Dr. Green has authored over 100 articles and a dozen book chapters on conditions of the knee. He has practiced at HSS since 1998 and is a board member of the PatelloFemoral Foundation.

Dr. Green has taken care of young athletes involved in the highest level of a variety of sports, and understands the emotional impact associated with sports injuries. Athletes from around the region, country, and outside the USA  who compete at the highest level of sports from regional all-star teams, high performance national teams, and even Olympic athletes have sought Dr. Green’s professional medical advice and opinion. Dr. Green typically follows his athlete patients through their college career and has even had the opportunity to follow some into their professional career. Dr. Green is credentialed as a team physician by the FIVB (Federation Internationale De Volleyball) and provides medical coverage for the USA Women’s National Volleyball Team.

Dr. Green has over 20 year’s experience of managing difficult fractures and injuries of children and adolescents. He currently provides emergency treatment of pediatric fractures and orthopedic emergencies at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital and Hospital for Special Surgery. Dr. Green is actively involved as a faculty and leader in AO North America and AO International, one of the few organizations that educates surgeons from around the world regarding the surgical treatment of pediatric fractures. After being nominated by the Pediatric Orthopedic Society of North America, Dr. Green became a member of the US Government’s Medical Specialty Enhancement Team (MSET). This program links pediatric orthopedic surgeons to federal disaster medical teams when needed during disaster response.

Chinmay specialises in soft tissue knee surgery, focusing on sports knee and children's knee injuries. In paediatrics, he has special interests in hyperlaxity, anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction with lateral tenodesis, meniscal repair and root repair, and patellofemoral instability, together with osteochondral Injury.

Chinmay has published extensively on the role of the anterolateral ligament in ACL reconstruction, together with risk factors for paediatric ACL injury and meniscal repair.

He continues his research in paediatric knee conditions and is working with the engineers at Imperial on osteochondral replacement.

He also leads orthopaedic simulation team lab at Imperial, which focuses on surgical safety in orthopaedic training.

Mr Haslam trained in Sheffield and completed fellowships in Melbourne, Auckland and Sydney, including with Mr Leo Pinczewski. 

He has been working as a Consultant for 15 years in Doncaster and Bassetlaw with a busy knee practice, including paediatric knee surgery. 

In 2019 Paul joined the paediatric knee team at Sheffield Children’s Hospital helping to provide the Knee Service. 

Paul has always been heavily involved in education and training and lectured on knee examination techniques at the British Orthopaedic Association for 10 years. 

He is also faculty on the Chesterfield Sheffield FRCS(Orth) course and co-convened the Biomet ACL course in 2015.    

Mr David Hollinghurst is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at the Great Western Hospital, Swindon and BMI The Ridgeway Hospital. Mr Hollinghurst also holds honorary consultant posts at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre, Oxford and Oxford Children’s Hospital.

Having gained a degree in physiology, specializing in the biology of nerve and muscle, from Cambridge University, he qualified in Medicine also from Cambridge in 1996. He completed orthopaedic training in Oxford, during which time he was awarded a Research Fellowship by the Royal College of Surgeons of England to study the function of partial and total knee replacements.

Mr Hollinghurst gained further experience during fellowships working with world class surgeons at Monash Medical Centre in Melbourne, British Columbia Children’s Hospital, Vancouver and a visiting fellowship in joint preservation of the young adult hip in Children’s Hospital Boston.

​

Training in both children’s and adult hip and knee surgery has fostered a strong interest in managing problems in patients of all age groups. The varied experience and different philosophies gained from training in four different health care systems has helped Mr Hollinghurst provide individual solutions for young, active or athletic patients.

​

Outside work Mr Hollinghurst remains a keen amateur sportsman racing in cycle sportives, triathlons, playing racket sports and high altitude mountaineering in the European Alps.

Having completed his training in London (St George’s), Tom developed a strong foundation in Orthopaedics and Musculoskeletal rehab over the years he spent at different teaching hospitals in the south, including the Royal Berkshire Hospital and the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Oxford. He went on to develop expertise in sports medicine, spending time at Wasps Rugby DPP and with independent athletes in the private sector at grassroots and elite level.

He has worked as a consultant to Oxfordshire based independent schools now for the past 7 years and has pioneered an injury triage service to diagnose and treat sports injuries early. He has also since become an ambassador for Adolescent sports injury prevention, becoming a founding trustee of SKIPP Charity in 2019. He now divides his time between clinical work, teaching/mentoring and promoting injury prevention. 

Mr Jonathon Lavelle qualified from Charing Cross Hospital Medical School in 1985. He trained in Orthopaedics on the West London training scheme including working at The Middlesex Hospital, Chelsea & Westminster and the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospitals. He has been a consultant at Chelsea & Westminster Hospital. Mr Lavelle has interests both in soft tissue surgery as well as joint replacement and revision surgery. He has worked with many professional rugby and football clubs, as well as with the Professional Jockeys Association in the UK.

He is involved in running a number of soft tissue knee surgery courses for trainees and consultants including for meniscal repair, ACL and PCL reconstructive surgery. He was a member of the BASK/BSCOS steering committee that developed guidelines on the management of paediatric soft tissue pathology.

Vipul Mandalia obtained his orthopaedic training with the Wessex Deanery. His fellowship training in knee surgery included leading centres in the UK and the USA (University of Alabama, University of Pittsburgh). Vipul has been a consultant orthopaedic surgeon at the Exeter Knee Reconstruction Unit, Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital since 2009.

His practice includes all aspects of knee surgery, including tertiary referrals for young knee arthritis, multi-ligament injury, meniscus repair, cartilage and meniscus transplant and complex patellofemoral surgery. He also provides treatment for complex knee trauma and sports knee injury in elite national and international sports persons. He performs partial and total knee replacement and uses advanced technology including robotic assisted knee replacement. He has developed and published surgical techniques on a number of surgical procedures.

Vipul is involved in education at various levels. He has been on the education committee of British Indian orthopaedic society for three years. He is the course convenor for the annual Exeter Knee Masterclass and other European knee courses. He has presented as an invited speaker at various national and international conferences.

As a research lead for the Exeter Knee Reconstruction Unit, he coordinates research projects in the department and has been a principle / chief investigator of various research projects. He is involved in multicentre international trials including that of cartilage transplantation. His research area not only includes the clinical outcomes of various surgical treatments but also the cellular and molecular effect of various treatment modalities on the knee joint and biomechanics of fixation devices. With his strong research background, he has authored a large number (over 50) of peer review publications, review articles and a book chapter.

Dr Shital Parikh is a Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery and Co-Director of Orthopaedic Sports Centre at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, USA. He specialises in Paediatric Sports Medicine with clinical and research interests focused on Patellar instability, paediatric ACL injuries, arthroscopic treatment of joint instability and paediatric trauma. After completion of Orthopaedic Residency from India, he completed fellowships in 1) Joint Reconstruction at Hospital for Joint Diseases, New York; 2) Paediatric Orthopaedics at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, 3) Trauma fellowship at Sunnybrook Hospital, Toronto and 4) Sports Medicine Fellowship in Cincinnati under Dr Frank Noyes.

He has published several scientific articles in peer-reviewed journals and has been the editor of 2 books – Paediatric ACL (published Dec 2017) and Patellar Instability (coming out Dec 2018). He has presented and has been faculty at various national and international courses and meetings. He is a member of several societies including International Patellofemoral Study Group, Paediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America and Arthroscopy Association of North America. He was awarded the ISAKOS Patellofemoral travelling fellowship in Oct 2014.

Korn is an experienced extended scope Physiotherapist and MSK Sonographer in professional football. He offers a fully integrated diagnostic musculoskeletal ultrasound (MSUS) service into his clinical assessment to tailor the treatment/rehabilitation plan supporting players of all ages at Sheffield United Football Club. 

He qualified with a Physiotherapy and Sports Science degree from Chiang Mai University, Thailand. He was the senior lecturer of Physiotherapy for 7 years at Thammasat University, Thailand before moving to the UK to pursue his dream working in elite football in 2008. A lifelong learning and football fanatic, he gained another master’s degree in Sports Physiotherapy from Sheffield Hallam University in 2011, also gained a Pg. Cert. of Medical Ultrasound in 2016 and a Pg. Dip. Medical Ultrasound in 2017 from AECC Bournemouth University, respectively. 

He has served Sheffield United FC as a part of the multi-disciplinary team between the medical, sports science, coaching and football education in all levels both Academy and Senior teams for years. He was promoted to be head of Sports Medicine in 2017. He has experience in managing growth-related disorders such as Osgood Schlatter’s Syndrome, Sinding Larsen Johansen Syndrome, Sever’s Syndrome within the football Academy. He also collaborates with specialists at Sheffield Children’s Hospital and created the rheumatology screening tool to identify the early signs of Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis (JIA) in youth footballers.

He is passionate about integrating MSUS into clinical practice and feels it is an invaluable tool in the modern diagnoses and management of MSK conditions especially in football medicine. 
He works closely alongside other medical and science staff to support the young professional developing player, whether it be providing MSK screening/player profile baseline data or key pre-habilitation/maintenance programme individually for reducing/controlling the risks of injury using up to date scientific evidence protocols and gold-standard testing procedures in his practice. 

Mr Daniel Reed is a consultant orthopaedic surgeon specialising in the care of paediatric patients, at Evelina Children’s Hospital, part of Guys’ & St. Thomas’ NHS Trust in London, UK.
He graduated from Oxford University Medical School in 2005, and undertook post-graduate training in Oxford then orthopaedic training in London, Kent, Surrey & Sussex. He went on to higher specialist training in paediatric orthopaedic surgery with fellowships in The Royal London Hospital and Starship Children’s Hospital, Auckland. He was appointed as a consultant at the Evelina London Children’s Hospital in 2017.

In addition to a general paediatric orthopaedic practice (including DDH, CTEV, trauma, infection), Dan has a specialist interest in the management of orthopaedic problems in children and young people with neuromuscular conditions including cerebral palsy, spina bifida and muscular dystrophies. Since 2018 he has also developed a subspecialty practice in paediatric and adolescent knee conditions alongside Mr Adil Ajuied, and an experienced multidisciplinary team of knee specialists from across Guys’ & St. Thomas’ hospitals.

Claire Robertson qualified in 1994 with a BSc(hons) Physiotherapy. She has since obtained her MSc Physiotherapy, in 2003, and PGCE in 2006. Claire has worked in the NHS, academia and private practice, and currently (and for the last 15 years) works as a consultant physiotherapist in patellofemoral pain at Wimbledon Clinics. Claire has lectured internationally and has many research papers and editorials published in internationally peer-reviewed journals. She is also a reviewer herself for Physiotherapy Research International, Physical Therapy in Sport, Clinical Anatomy and Physiotherapy. Claire runs her own education business, Claire Patella, and as part of this runs post-graduate courses on patellofemoral problems for physiotherapists.  Claire has also lectured widely on adolescent patellofemoral pain. She is on the education committee for the British Patellofemoral Society.

Professor. Martyn Snow is a Consultant Knee and Shoulder Surgeon at The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital, he is a graduate of Edinburgh University and undertook his Registrar training in the Manchester region. He spent 18 months on fellowship in North America, 12 months in Halifax, Nova Scotia undertaking a Sports Medicine fellowship at the Sports Medicine Clinic of Nova Scotia. He subsequently spent 6 months at the Holand Orthopaedic and Arthritic Centre in Toronto, gaining further experience in Shoulder and Knee surgery. In 2008 Prof Snow was awarded the British Elbow and Shoulder Society North American travelling fellowship. In 2018 Prof. Snow undertook the APKASS ESSKA traveling fellowship, visiting major arthroscopic centres across Australasia.

Professor Snow has over 60 publications in various International medical journals, has written 6 book chapters on knee and shoulder injuries and has presented over 100 papers at various national and International meetings. Professor Snow has an honorary chair in Chemical Engineering at The University of Birmingham and an honorary chair in Regenerative Medicine at Aston University. His current research interests include the use of chondroprogenitors for cartilage repair, biological augmentation of tendon repair and rotational lower limb malalignment.

Tim Spalding is a specialist knee surgeon in UK at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust and Honorary Associate Professor at the University of Warwick. In London he is knee surgeon at the Fortius Clinic.

His specialist interest in reconstructive knee surgery includes meniscal transplantation, articular cartilage repair, ligament reconstruction including multi-ligament injuries, and osteotomy.

Tim trained at Oxford and at Royal Naval Hospital Haslar, prior to a specialist arthroscopy and knee surgery fellowship in Toronto in 1994-1995. He qualified in 1982 from Charing Cross Hospital, London and spent the first part of his medical career with the Royal Marines and the Royal Navy. He joined Coventry in 2000 after five years as a Consultant in the Armed Forces. He has a busy sports knee surgery practice, runs a knee fellowship program and continues to be very active in teaching and research, pioneering several new techniques. He currently has over 75 publications and 12 book chapters.

Internationally he is the current President of the ACL Study group, he was the recent chair of the Arthroscopy Committee for ESSKA and now co-leads the European Allograft Initiative. For the ICRS he was chair of the Finance Committee and now helps lead the Cartilage Foundation. Previously he was the program chairman of the ICRS congress in Chicago in 2015. Nationally he leads the National Ligament Registry collecting outcome on ACL surgery.

Dai Sugimoto, PhD is the Associate Professor at Waseda University, Tokyo, Japan. He is a current Research Affiliate and former Associate Director of Clinical Research at The Micheli Center, research technologist at Boston Children’s Hospital Division of Sports Medicine, and Instructor at Harvard Medical School.

Dr. Sugimoto received his undergraduate degree from University of Wisconsin La-Crosse in 2000 with a Bachelor of Science in exercise and sports science with athletic training. As an athletic training student, he interned with the New Orleans Saints and Gunderson Lutheran Medical Center. After completing his bachelor’s degree, he became a certified athletic trainer (ATC) and worked as a graduate assistant athletic trainer at Lakeland College (Sheboygan, WI) and University of Rhode Island. After completing his master’s degree from the University of Rhode Island in 2003, he served as a head athletic trainer at Seton Hill University for two years. He then received an appointment as head athletic trainer and adjunct faculty member from the Exercise Science and Sports Studies program at Lakeland College in 2005.

In 2009, Dr. Sugimoto joined a research group at the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center Division of Sports Medicine in Cincinnati, OH as a research assistant. His primary role at the hospital was to provide injury prevention interventions at local secondary schools in Boone County, KY. At the same time, he was working toward a degree in the rehabilitation science doctoral program at the University of Kentucky. In 2013, he graduated from University of Kentucky with a PhD. During this process, he received the Clint Thompson award (2nd runner-up) from the Journal of Athletic Training. One of the studies Dr. Sugimoto co-authored won the systematic review award from the American Journal of Sports Medicine in 2012. Another study authored by Dr. Sugimoto won the systematic review award from the British Journal of Sports Medicine in 2015 and was featured by Fox News. After two years of post-doctoral training at The Micheli Center and Boston Children’s Hospital Division of Sports Medicine, he received an Instructor appointment from Harvard Medical School in 2015.

Maria is a Knee Surgeon at Alemana Clinic (Pediatric Knee Surgery) and Mutual Hospital (Adult Knee Surgery and Reconstruction) in Santiago de Chile. 

She is Fellowship Trained at Hospital for Special Surgery - NYC, USA in Pediatric Knee Surgery, and at Mutual Hospital - Chile for Adult Knee Surgery and Reconstruction. 

Maria is also Director of the Knee Surgery Fellowship at Mutual Hospital (Isakos Teaching Center and AO Trauma Center) whilst also being a Committee member at Isakos Knee Sports & Preservation 2019 - 2023

Marco Turati, MD, is Assistant Professor in Milano-Bicocca University. He is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at San Gerardo Hospital, Italy and at the Transalpine Center Of Pediatric Sports Medicine And Surgery. He participated in the development of the Transalpine Center Of Pediatric Sports Medicine And Surgery, an International Pediatric Sport Medicine Center between the Grenoble Alps University Hospital, France and the University of Milano-Bicocca.  His clinical and research interests are sports medicine, paediatric orthopaedics and paediatric sports medicine. He is the chair of the EPOS Sports Study Group.

Kate obtained a Science degree with Honours from the University of Melbourne and received her PhD in 2000.

Dr. Webster’s primary area of research interest is anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction. Her research as it relates to the ACL falls broadly within three categories: 1) knee biomechanics following ACL reconstruction 2) surgical techniques and outcomes and 3) return to sport issues, with a focus on the psychological impact of returning to sport participation. Her current research is also focussed on the high ACL re-injury rates in younger athletes and return to sport criteria. She was the lead developer of the ACL-Return to Sport after Injury scale and is a recipient of the prestigious ACL Study Group traveling scientist award. She has received several national and international awards for her research and has over 125 scientific publications.

Dr. Webster also teaches evidence based practice, supervises higher degree research students and is a research mentor for an orthopaedic fellowship program. Many of her students have received awards for their research projects including the top university research prizes as well as national sports medicine awards.

Mr Williams specialises in knee problems.

​

He works with many sports professionals including most English Premier League football teams and Aviva Premiership rugby clubs.
